We are working to restore native oak trees in Walnut Creek's Open Space. Volunteers will work with Foundation members to install cylinders around the oak seedlings we planted last winter to help them grow faster and protect them against browsing by cattle and deer. Volunteers will work with experienced oak habitat project workers and will be trained as part of the event. Volunteers should at least 12 years old and be able to walk one mile (round trip) on a dirt trail. Volunteers should be able to carry 5-10 pounds of tools. Some volunteers may also use 10 pound tools to drive metal rods into the ground.
