WILDLIFE HABITATS DOCENT

Wildlife Habitats Docents give tours to groups visiting the Museum in which they perform live animal presentations with informational talks followed by tours of the Museum's live animal collection in the Wildlife Habitats. Docents love the joy children experience when they learn about the animals. We have one docent who has volunteered for 30 years.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead tours of our Wildlife Habitats and beautiful walk-through Aviary for school groups, age Pre-K through 5th grade.
-Optional: Train to handle education animals for presentation at beginning of each tour.
-Teach students about our local ecology and inspire a commitment to care for our earth wisely.
  • Give other tours to adult groups on occasion.

  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Outgoing, personable and able to relate to children.
  • Able to speak in public and work in a non-classroom situation.
  • Interest in natural history and the environment.
  • Reliable, flexible, energetic.

  • TIME COMMITMENT:
Tours last one hour and are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10am and 11:15am.
Time Commitment: Two regularly scheduled Tuesday or Thursday mornings per month for at least one school year.
