Baltimore Housing's Office of Community Services is mandated to reduce poverty and to move residents toward self-reliance.

Description:
The Office of Community Services operates seven community action centers,72 head start centers and 2 day care centers throughout the city,as well as two homeless shelters. The community action centers offer assistance with utility bills, educational and employment programs as well as referrals for housing, social services and substance abuse.

Our current priority is getting volunteers for the homeless shelters.The shelters operate 7 days a week from 7:00PM to 6:00AM. The shelters will operate from July 1 to October 31, 2008. Volunteers will monitor homeless clients under the direction of Baltimore Housing staff.Volunteers would work a 3 or 4 hour shift.
