The mission of the Fire Museum of Maryland is to collect, preserve, display and interpret historically significant apparatus and related artifacts, memorabilia and records of the fire service in the United States. Also, the Museum educates the public about the history, people, equipment and techniques of the fire service, and about fire prevention and safety.

Description:
The Museum is home to more than 40 antique fire engines dating from 1806 to 1957. There is a working fire alarm telegraph system, a large exhibit on the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904-complete with an audio tour, videos, children's playroom, gift shop and more. We offer a number of children's programs and tours, both on archaeology and the history of fire apparatus, but on the Great Fire and technology. The Museum also has a large research center where archival materials are kept on the various fire services around the country, the history of fire fighting, as well as thousands of photographs relating to fire.

History:
The non-profit Museum was founded in 1971 by Stephen Heaver and his son, Stephen G. Heaver, Jr. Mr. Heaver was a developer in the area and not a fireman. He collected his first fire engine in 1958 while on a business trip. His hobby became the largest Museum in the country with America's premier collection of fire fighting apparatus!
