FIRN's mission is to support all foreign-born of the Howard County area by helping to ensure equal access to community resources and opportunities.

Description:
FIRN offers free or low-cost services to immigrants and refugees from around the world.



FIRN's services to the foreign-born include:

  • English Classes & Tutoring
  • Immigration Counseling & Legal Services
  • Interpreters & Translators
  • Job & Career Counseling
  • Social Service Referrals

By providing support for immigrants at times of need and crisis, FIRN stabilizes lives and provides a safety net for families.

History:
FIRN was formally founded in 1981, growing out of an informal support service for foreign-born students at Howard Community College. In 1984, FIRN was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Slowly its services expanded to include immigration counseling, housing, crisis intervention, English tutoring and other critical services.



Today it serves immigrants from over 100 countries. FIRN is well known as the key resource in Central Maryland for the foreign-born. It also provides valuable assistance and guidance to health and human service agencies that serve immigrant clients.
