The Martin Pollak Project, Inc. is dedicated to enhancing the lives of families and children by building on their unique strengths and by developing community to help establish productive and fulfilling lives.
Description:
The Martin Pollak Project, Inc. is a non-profit treatment foster care agency located in Baltimore, MD and Washington, D.C. Our agency specializes in the placement of foster children in both foster homes and in our independent living program. We provide foster parent training and certification as well as direct services for our foster children.
History:
With fond memories of her childhood and the love given by her parents, Elizabeth Pollak began planting seeds for a family-based program for children in crisis who would otherwise be institutionalized. She and her late husband, Martin Pollak, became known for their shared commitment to charitable giving and community service. Martin's work with young people in the juvenile and criminal justice systems further increased Elizabeth's concern to do something about the plight of youngsters living outside the natural base of the family and community environment. To this end, in 1980, she created the Martin Pollak Project as a living memorial to her husband. The program was created as a private, nonprofit child placement agency committed to working with young people rejected by other community-based programs. The Martin Pollak Project held then, as it does today, that an individualized program should be designed for each child and family.
The agency was designed to provide services to children in natural and foster families and in independent living. In the course of its history, the Martin Pollak Project has improved the functioning and quality of life for MPP children and their families.
