Congregations Concerned for the Homeless, Inc (CCH) is a nonprofit organization that operates a Transitional Housing Program for homeless families. CCH seeks to enable homeless families to become self-sufficient. CCH envisions a community that is committed to eliminating homelessness in Howard County, MD.

Description:
Congregations Concerned for the Homeless (CCH) provides transitional housing and services to clients within the program.

CCH addresses the issue of homelessness by providing transitional services that help individuals transition into self sufficiency. While living in transitional homes, clients are given the opportunity to live within the community, pay down debt, receive training so they can earn a higher income, identify the life patterns that have placed them in this position, and create a plan for the future. CCH utilizes volunteers to provide mentoring services to clients in order to aid in this transitional process.

History:
In 1985 CCH’s first president watched a film in which a woman and her daughter became homeless after a condominium project forced them to move from their apartment building, resulting in the breakup of her fragile family. The movie spurred her to action. She helped organize workshops that drew representatives from several Howard County churches. In 1989, the Community Action Council challenged the group to take action and thus began the formation of Churches Concerned for the Homeless, which was incorporated in September 1990.
