A certified 501c3 nonprofit horse rescue and horse rehabilitation facility located in Maryland. We DO NOT sell horses, but facilitate the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of those horses in our care to permanent informed loving homes. We strive to heal the horses that come to us not only physically, but mentally, emotionally and spiritually using a variety of alternative therapies. We do have some permanent residents, but make every effort to adopt out as many animals as possible. We are 100% volunteer run and operate solely on donations.

History:
HorseNet Horse Rescue was started by Elle Williams many years ago to address the need for a rescue that would take in equines from any situation. Her desire to rescue equines began when she got her her first horse. He had been badly abused as a 2 year old, and was chased by several drunken teenagers on horseback that beat him with bull whips to the point of exhaustion. When he finally fell to the ground, the beating continued. As a result, he did not like men and the sight of a lunge whip, crop or even a big stick sent him into a panic.

Dancer taught her to ride with heart and dedication despite his past. He was the inspiration behind HorseNet, and is the reason she goes to such lengths to properly match horse and rider.

As her horse career progressed, she grew more and more disheartened as she watched how people would just buy and sell horses like they were used up appliances; it just didn't seem right. The search for the elusive "perfect" horse meant many horses were being thrown away for minor defects that could be fixed.

To Elle this was a tragedy and it just seemed to her that someone needed to act as a safety "Net" for those horses, so "HorseNet" was born.

HorseNet Horse Rescue (HorseNet Inc.) obtained their 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 2000.
