The mission of The Home Team Program is to provide sensitive, in-home volunteer supportive services to homebound elderly persons in order to reduce the incidence of premature and inappropriate institutionalization.

Description:
Volunteers choose to provide any of the following services to eligible elderly, who may be experiencing isolation, role loss, and temporary or chronic disability:
Friendly Visiting
Telephone Visiting
Shopping
Escort Trips

History:
The increase in sheer numbers of persons over 65 and over 75 increases the need and demand for in-home supportive services. Gaps in service exist due to insufficient funds and inadequate or non-existent support from family or friends. We started with 1 coordinator in 1 senior center in 1986, and now have 7 coordinators working through all 19 senior centers in Baltimore County. We now serve approximately 350 clients with 300 volunteers, providing 17,000 hours of service.
