Baltimore County Christian Workcamp
Last updated on October 17, 2008

BCCW's task is to share the love of Christ by improving the homes of and providing assistance for some limited income families in Baltimore County. It is home repair and assistance for the needy by volunteers of all ages.

Description:
BCCW volunteers do all types of repair work, e.g., ramps, plumbing, electrical, painting (inside and out), caulking, roofs, clean-up, carpentry, etc. The BCCW week begins with a kick-off dinner at Hunt's Memorial UMC, then volunteers meet at Hunt's each morning to have breakfast and to make bagged lunches before going off to a site. There are optional dinners at various churches and locations in the County. Volunteers must have their own health insurance to participate. Anyone over 16 may volunteer; under 16 requires adult supervision. Fee is $25 a week or $6 per day. Large groups are asked to donate monies for materials. Registration brochures are available,

History:
The BCCW, a 501(c)(3) organization, was founded by two Methodist ministers in 1984. It is now run by lay people and is completely ecumenical. Each year 25-30 homes are worked on during the third week of July. Homes are suggested by the County Department of Social Services or Health or Aging, food banks, churches, etc. The sites are then reviewed and prioritized. The number of sites worked on in any one year depends on the number of volunteers, their expertise, weather, available funds, etc.
