The Arc of Baltimore's mission is to ensure that people with developmental disabilities have maximum opportunities to actively participate in all aspects of community life, and to offer programs and services that support them in doing so.
Description:
The Arc of Baltimore provides services to about 3,000 men, women and children in the Baltimore area. These services include community living, employment, foster care, day programs, medical day care facilities, subcontract services, landscape and janitorial contract work, information and referral, advocacy, recreation, resources for families of children with disabilities, and more. The Arc of Baltimore has eight locations in Baltimore City and County, in Dundalk, Rutherford, Homeland, Towson, Waverly and Seton Business park. The agency has over 350 people working in the community and almost 200 people with disabilities live in the community either in their own home or an assisted living unit. Respite care and foster care services are available for families of children with special needs. We also offer a summer program in partnership with the Living Classrooms Foundation - Bay Buddies Program, which offers 80 students from Title V schools the opportunity to participate in this unique, enriched educational experience.
History:
The Arc of Baltimore began in 1949 when a group of parents formed a support group to find needed resources and advocacy for their children with special needs. Since then, the agency has been at the forefront of local, state and national changes in services and treatment of people with developmental disabilities. With the mission of full participation in the community, The Arc works hard with its staff, community resources, schools, businesses, families, neighbors, and friends to make this dream a reality for thousands of people who want independence and their rights heard.
