Description:
Ours is the fifth largest Red Cross Blood Region in the country. The Region must supply area medical facilities with 1200 units of blood every day in order to meet the needs of patients in the Community. Every day approximately 30 blood drives are sponsored throughout the Region, at businesses, religious organizations, schools, and community centers.
The blood collected by the Red Cross goes to cancer patients, surgery patients, accidents victims, burn victims; to whomever needs this gift of life. Our goal and our mission is the relief of human suffering.

History:
During World War II, at the request of the Military, the American Red Cross initiated a national blood program that collected over 13 million pints of blood for use by the Armed Forces. The Blood Services branch of the Red Cross was established after World War II, when the Red Cross introduced the first nationwide civilian blood program. The Red Cross now supplies nearly 50 percent of the blood products in this country.
