Last updated on July 21, 2008

The Mission of CASA of Baltimore County is to provide court appointed volunteers who advocate for the well being of Baltimore County's abused and neglected children including their placement in safe and permanent homes. The Vision of the organization is that each child involved in abuse and neglect court proceedings that needs a CASA will have one available. The Mission and Vision will be accomplished through the recruitment, screening, training and support of citizen volunteers who will serve as CASAs.

Description:
CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. CASA volunteers are ordinary citizens, age 21 or older, who have an interest in keeping children in foster care safe from further harm, and for assisting the court in finding a safe and permanent home for children in state supervised care. Trained volunteers, with supervision and support provided by a social worker or other professional, follow the situations of children closely and make written recommendations to the court about the child's current care and future placement.

History:
CASA of Baltimore County was founded in the year 2000 by a group of concerned citizens who felt that Baltimore County needed a CASA program to meet the needs of the over 700 children in state supervised foster care. The first volunteers were trained in late 2001, and assigned to cases in February 2002.
