CFK's Vision is to empower the lives of destitute children worldwide

CFK's Mission is (1) to provide homes for children victimized by war, crime, or abuse; (2) to rehabilitate those children to become economically self-sufficient adults, and (3) to build the foundation for peaceful and productive societies by strengthening the communities where we operate.

Description:
Caring for Kaela is and International Children's Organization dedicated to reducing poverty in Africa by empowering individuals to become economically self-sufficient and capable, able, and willing to help themselves out of poverty by addressing the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of the poor and downtrodden.

CFK is in the process of building its first poverty reduction initiative in Chad, Central Africa, a country stifled by corruption, war, and extreme poverty.

Through its volunteer membership, local Psycho-Social rehabilitation programs in Africa will provide individuals in need with educational support, employment skills development, case coordination and advocacy services, linkage to medical services, health, nutrition and hygiene training, milieu therapy, independent living-skills, social skills, and conflict resolution skills training, structured recreational and leisure activities, community involvement and re-integration, character building, and follow-up discharge services as indicated.

Services will also include community development, capacity building for government entities, and micro-financing for local businesses.

Our goal is to help people help themselves.

History:
CFK was founded March 19th, 2004. Our current board has served faithfully, leveraging their own personal resources to see this project come to fruition. We were granted our 501(c)(3) status in March 2005 and our first volunteer joined Caring for Kaela in May of that year.

Research on poverty and the developing world brought us to select Chad, Central Africa, as our first location, Chad being one of the poorest countries in Africa and plagued by corruption and war.

The initial phase of our program development included getting CFK recognized by established organizations and NGOs. This led to meetings with World Vision, Africare, Bread for the World, the Embassy of Chad, the Chadian Diaspora in the US and others.

We have now entered our second phase which is to develop a country program tailored to the needs of the Chadian population and develop strategies that will benefit the community of Abeche in particular. We completed a two month long needs assessment study, from November through December 2005, which identified the needs of the Chadian population in the area of education and economic development.

We are in the process of analyzing the data and plan to return to Chad to develop the poverty reduction strategies with our target group.
