One Less Car advocates for providing safe and effective cycling and walking for all citizens through education, lobbying, and facilitation between our communities, governments, and state and local representatives.

Description:
We are your neighbors and friends who want to improve the quality of life for us all by helping to reclaim our basic right to freedom of mobility. We are committed to reversing the harm done to our collective well being, the unraveling of our neighborhoods and communities, and the increased risks we face daily due to our society's focus on the automobile at the exclusion of other modes.

History:
Established in 1999, One Less Car is Maryland's statewide advocacy voice for promoting safe and accessible biking and walking as an alternative to relying on cars for our sole form of transportation. The organization stages two major annual bike tours, Cycle Across Maryland and Tour du Port, attracting more than two thousand participants. Both of these events were established by other organizations. Successes include: passage of bills in the Maryland General Assembly to create programs to promote safer biking for children; creation of the position of statewide Director of Bicycle and Pedestrian Access; funding for the Maryland Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee; and mandating the formulation of a statewide 20-year bicycle/pedestrian master plan.
