Diakon Adoption Services Of Maryland
Last updated on August 6, 2008

At Diakon Adoption Services of MD, our mission is to demonstrate God's love through acts of service to others.

Our office, specifically, serves Maryland families who wish to adopt children, including international adoption, domestic adoption, and special-needs adoption.

As a part of Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries, our office prohibits discrimination against anyone on the basis of race, color, religious creed, disability, marital status, ancestry, national origin, sexual orientation, age, or gender.

Description:
We are located in Baltimore City, but we serve families throughout Maryland by assisting them with the process of adopting.

We provide our adoptive families with 24-training so they can be approved foster and/or adoptive parents. We work with them to write home studies so that they can be considered for children.

Depending on the services selected by the family, we also assist them in finding the child or children who will join their family forever, assist with the placement of the child or children in their home, supervise the new family for at least six months, and assist the family in finalizing their adoption.

Although we do not have a staff member who specializes in pregnancy services, our case workers can provide counseling to pregnant women, too, regarding their options and opportunities in this difficult life decision.

History:
Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries, our parent organization, dates back to 1868, when the Tressler Orphans Home was created to serve children during the Civil War.

Diakon Adoption Services of MD, specifically, was founded in 1995 with the goal of specializing in special needs adoption, which focuses on the adoption of sibling groups, children over the age of six, and children with disabilities because these children typically wait longer to be adopted and run a higher risk of not being adopted.

We are pleased to serve the families of Maryland. We are open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM with some additional evening and weekend events for our families.
