Village Life Company, the 'parent' of the Disaster News Network, provides original content and a voice for social justice and disaster recovery organizations. DNN, with 100% original content, is a news service that tells the story of disaster response and suggests appropriate ways the public can help survivors and facilitates information sharing among disaster responders. DNN also covers related special topics such as preparedness and mitigation, public violence, environmental hazards, and terrorist disasters. www.villagelife.org

Description:
Created and maintained by VLC and sponsored by a number of faith-based disaster response organizations including Church World Service, the award-winning Disaster News Network (www.disasternews.net) is a comprehensive Internet site of timely news and information about U.S. disaster response. The DNN Volunteer News (DVN) program provides a database by states for those individuals and groups who wish to volunteer their help in long term domestic disaster recovery. See www.disastervolunteers.org for additional resources for volunteers. DNN also provides links to those organizations active in disaster relief and recovery.

History:
Village Life Company was founded in 1996 to create content for social justice-related Web sites and assist other nonprofit and religious organizations to effectively use the Internet. The organization's first project was the former Village Life Online Magazine, launched in 1996 as the first exclusively Internet-based social justice news magazine. DNN receives most of its funding from disaster response organizations. We also welcome support from individuals and foundations that share our compassion in raising awareness of and increasing the response to disaster survivors' needs around the world.
