G-ROW Boston is a rowing and youth development program for 7th-12th grade girls in the Boston Public Schools. Our goal is to use rowing and academic support to teach girls to have the strength and confidence they need to build a positive future for themselves.
Description:
G-ROW is seeking community volunteers who can assist with the academic support component of our program. Once per week in the fall and spring, and three times per week during the winter, the girls in the program participate in supervised study hall/tutoring sessions. We are seeking volunteer tutor/mentors to work with our girls one-on-one or in small groups during this time.
History:
G-ROW was founded by Olympic Gold Medalist, Holly Metcalf in 1996 with a pilot program at the John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science, and was officially launched in the fall of 1998 with a generous start-up grant from the Anna B. Stearns Charitable Foundation. G-ROW now opperates as a program of Community Rowing, Inc. and serves over 200 girls from the Boston Public Schools per year.
