Description:
Clean Water Fund (CWF) is a national non-profit research and education organization that promotes the public interest on issues relating to energy, water, waste, toxics and natural resources. CWF’s top goals include building support for environmental health issues, and empowering citizens to create grassroots power and make democracy work. CWF’s programs build on and complement those of Clean Water Action. Clean Water Action is a national organization with over 1 million members nationally, over 30,000 in Massachusetts, whose goals are clean, safe and affordable water; prevention of health-threatening pollution; creation of environmentally-safe jobs and businesses; and empowerment of people to make democracy work. Clean Water Action organizes strong grassroots groups and coalitions, and campaigns to elect environmental candidates and solve environmental and community problems. The Project: Toxic chemicals are contributing to an epidemic of chronic diseases and disorders in our communities. Government policies to regulate these chemicals do not protect our health and allow toxic chemicals in our common household products as well as our air and water. Given the power of polluting industries in stopping health protective policies, it is necessary to build a broad and powerful coalition and conduct a strategic and effective campaign to create a public mandate for health protective policies.
History:
CWF is the founder and coordinator of Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow, a ground-breaking coalition of citizens, scientists, health professionals, workers and educators, seeking preventive action on toxic hazards. Please see www.healthytomorrow.org.
