The History Project is an archives and education outreach organization devoted to preserving and promoting Boston's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender history.

Description:
The History Project is the sole organization working to encourage a reinterpretation of the mainstream historical narrative that has often ignored the social, political and economic contributions the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community has made to the city of Boston. We are volunteer-driven organization comprised of archivists, academics, community organizers, historians, photographers, and writers with interest in and knowledge of Boston's gay history and experience. We are currently working on a number of projects, including the creation of an online version of Above and Beyond, our exhibit documenting Boston's response to the AIDS crisis.

History:
In 1980, a group of Boston-area archivists established Our Boston Heritage Educational Foundation to conduct research on lesbians and gay men in Massachusetts, and to preserve the documentary record of the social and historical contributions they had made. Renamed The History Project (or THP) in 1997, we aim to uncover the contributions made by Boston's lesbians and gay men so that historians can then provide a more accurate account of the Commonwealth's past.
