Mission:
Bread & Jams, a compassionate, professional, and ethical organization, provides a safe and supportive environment to the homeless community and others in crisis, by offering tailored services and tools to encourage a sense of community, self advocacy, and empowerment with openness and respect.

Vision:
Our vision is to be a model for improving the quality of life for the homeless and others in need.

Description:
Bread & Jams is committed to reducing the plight of the homeless and be a model for helping those in need through self-advocacy and active participation in the community’s social services environment. We want to make a significant positive impact on the number of individuals who now live on the streets at great risk. The task is daunting as we constantly strive to be better at what we do. The degree to which we can continue to offer improved services and therefore achieve better results is dependent on our fundraising efforts. This is perhaps our biggest challenge as we seek to tap into new major funding while managing with an all volunteer Board of professional members.

History:
Bread & Jams was Founded in 1989 by a group of students and homeless musicians in the Harvard Square area. We provide a place for the homeless to receive the guidance and care, of professional staff, to better their lives. We offer counseling, housing assistance, job referrals, voicemail service, internet access for job search and training, links to medical and legal services as well as hot meals, clothing and a friendly environment. Today an average of 50 clients visit the Center daily making Bread & Jams an integral, vital member of the Greater Cambridge community. We serve a Sunday Meal to 70 homeless and needy individuals.
