The mission of Cambridge Family & Children's Service (CFCS) is to strengthen families and promote conditions that provide children and adolescents with stable homes and community environments. CFCS' many specialized programs for children, teens, and struggling families are designed to tackle their most pressing problems.
Description:
CFCS provides needed supports and services to children, adolescents and families that help insure families stay intact whenever possible, and when that fails to find temporary to permanent families for children who must leave their families. CFCS offers adoption, foster care, supports to families with a disabled child, volunteer mentoring and residential services to children aging out of state care. CFCS has two mentoring programs that are in need of committed volunteers. Mentors serve as friends, role models, advocates, and resource persons for the youth and families, helping them develop the skills and self-confidence they need to succeed. Please see the opportunities link for more information.
History:
Founded in 1873 as the Avon Home, an orphanage for local children, Cambridge Family & Children's Service (CFCS), a private, non-profit, non-sectarian organization, is one of the region's oldest human service agencies in Cambridge. Today our agency has evolved into a vibrant network of caring staff, families, and community volunteers--all committed to building a brighter future for our children and families. CFCS serves over 40 cities and towns in Greater Boston.
