-To provide the basic necessities of life to all who need them. -To empower all people to become valued members of society, while raising awareness for their plight. -To reflect the love of God in all we do with integrity.
Description:
The Boston Rescue Mission is a Christian non-profit multi-service organization that has been working to move homeless and needy people from poverty to self-sufficiency since 1899. We begin by first addressing immediate and critical needs of the homeless and poor. Then we programmatically move them along the continuum of care according to their individual circumstances. The Boston Rescue Mission provides a variety of services and supports. Further information about these services can be easily accessed on our website: www.brm.org/programs.asp
History:
Since 1899, Boston Rescue Mission (formerly known as Merrimac Mission), a non-profit Christian organization, has been helping homeless and poverty-stricken people pursue their dreams of a better life. The Mission operates Kingston House, one of Boston's oldest continuously-running homeless shelters. Located in the heart of the Financial District, we provide meals, clothing, training, and services for as many as 200 visitors every day, with capacity to serve 175 overnight guests.

Volunteer Reflections

Overall Experience
I've gained immeasurable perspective and blessings from volunteering at the Mission.

I volunteered with On the Job, Inc. this summer and have worked with the Boston Rescue Mission during the school year. I help recruit student volunteers and volunteers in general for the Mission. I recommend this opportunity to anyone who likes seeing results. One cannot spend time at the Mission and not be affected by the way it changes people's lives. posted by owens on November 15, 2002 |
Overall Experience
I have learned a lot about serving others through my monthly volunteer experiences at BRM.
