Federated Dorchester Neighborhood Houses, Inc. (FDNH) serves the community as a catalyst for action and change by helping to build a community of caring individuals where the strength of diversity is valued and children, youth and families have possibilities for personal growth and an improved quality of life in and around Dorchester.

Description:
FDNH has moved from an organization whose programs addressed community need through education to one that uses education as a means to influence and improve the community through high impact programs. Our programs focus on improving academic, social and emotional skills to create greater opportunities for those we serve.
•Early Education - We are the second largest provider network in Dorchester with four center based programs and a network of twenty six home care providers serving 264 children.
•Out of School Time Programming - This consists of three programs offering after school and summer enrichment: Dorchester Place, Little House and Log School for youth 6 through 13 which operate between the hours of 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. each weekday and all day (7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) during school vacations and summer serving 317 students.
•Adolescent Development - Programs include prevention and recreation, Art a la Carte, girls groups, Jobs ROCK, and VILLAGE. Programs run daily to build academic, life and social skills while providing a safe place for youth to build supportive relationships and serve 407 youth.
•Alternative Education - We operate two programs for students who have been unable to succeed in traditional settings: Alternative Middle School and Young Adult GED Program. Both offer small, supportive environments to help students get back on track to prepare for college, work and a successful life. Our middle school educates 6-8th graders and Young Adult GED Program serves 16-24 year olds. Both schools serve a total of 65 students.
•Adult Education and ESOL - We provide 8 levels of Adult Basic Education classes for participants ranging from 22-70 years who study in small classes with tutoring and instruction. The classes range from first time conversational English to intermediate writing. Adults acquire basic skills and progress an average of 2 grade levels per semester and serve 167 adults per year.
•Food Pantries – We have two food pantries that provide for roughly 300 people each week.

History:
FDNH was established in 1965 when three turn-of-the-century settlement houses in Boston consolidated their fiscal and administrative operations. FDNH has a history of providing opportunities for people to come together to organize recreational, cultural and educational activities; create economic opportunities and support each other. Over the last forty years FDNH has served thousands of people and invested millions of dollars in the Dorchester community.
