Ivy Street School is a private, nonprofit residential and day school located in Brookline. The program provides special education and rehabilitative services to children and adolescents who have suffered traumatic brain injuries.
Description:
We provide services to children and adolescents who have developed neurological problems. These neurological disorders, often a result of a traumatic brain injury, have resulted in difficulties with learning, social skills, behaviors, attention and concentration, and memory. Many of the children and teenagers who come to us have been in accidents which have caused a brain injury. As medical technology improves and more people survive brain injuries, we are challenged to provide better services for helping people to regain skills and functioning after the injury.
History:
Ivy Street School was begun about seven years ago to address the unmet needs of school children in Massachusetts who had suffered a brain injury or acquired neurological disorder. Prior to this, children had been sent out of state to receive services. Ivy Street School is a relatively young program, and we are trying to continually improve our services to students and their families.
