South Shore Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with families, communities and volunteers to build simple, decent homes in partnership with families in need.

Description:
South Shore Habitat for Humanity engages volunteers in all aspects of its work, especially in the physical construction of homes. Volunteers work with future homeowners to build houses, which are then sold to families in need at no profit with a 20-year, no-interest mortgage. The money from the sale of each home goes into a revolving Fund for Humanity to support future building projects.

South Shore Habitat for Humanity serves 32 towns and cities south and southwest of Boston. We are governed by a Board of Directors and have 8 staff members. Volunteers work with us in the office, on construction sites, and on various committees.

History:
Habitat for Humanity International began in 1976 in Americus, Georgia. Jimmy Carter is the organization's most famous volunteer. The organization has built 200,000 homes around the world. South Shore Habitat is one of 1,900 affiliates here in the United States. We were founded in Norwell in 1986. Since then, we have built 40 homes for 213 individuals.

Our inspiration comes from our families, who work alongside other volunteers and neighbors to build their homes. This process builds friendships that last long after the construction of our homes is complete, and helps build the values of community and caring.
