The Massachusetts Alliance on Teen Pregnancy is a nonprofit coalition of 100 health and human service agencies. Our mission is to provide leadership to prevent teenage pregnancy and expand, improve, and promote the availability and accessibility of quality services for pregnant and parenting teenagers and their children.
To achieve these goals, the Alliance provides statewide leadership in policy analysis, planning and education of service providers.

Description:
The Alliance operates two programs. The Policy Program promotes responsive state and federal policy development and resource allocations for teen parent services and teen pregnancy prevention programs. Involving youth in the policy-making process is key to the program's work. The Teen Parent Policy Advisory Board provides a unique opportunity for young people to represent themselves and the needs of teen parents to the Commonwealth's policy makers.

The Education and Public Information Program provides a wide range of workshops and seminars to develop and enhance the skills of individuals working in teen parent services or in teen pregnancy prevention programs. The Benefits Access Project not only provides technical expertise for teens and providers on accessing public benefits and support services, but also provides important feedback to the policy program, by identifying systemic problems impacting teen parents across the state.

History:
In 1979, 11 Boston area service providers founded the Alliance for Young Families to promote coordination of services. Over the past 20 years, the Alliance's membership has grown to include over 100 health and human service agencies from across Massachusetts. Through it's thoughtful and persistent policy research and advocacy work, the Alliance has enabled otherwise over-burdened and frustrated service providers to speak with a common voice on the need for change in the public policies that affect adolescents.
