Ethos promotes personal well-being, dignity, and autonomy by delivering home and community-based care, which supports family care giving, fosters social interaction and reflects cultural diversity.
Description:
Ethos is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing services to low-income elders to enable them to maintain their health and independence in their own homes for as long as possible. As a designated Aging Service Access Point (ASAP), Ethos is a single entry point for long term care service. The Home Care Program at Ethos arranges for such services as house cleaning, personal care, home delivered meals, transportation and volunteer support. The Elders At Risk Program assists seniors who neglect themselves; preventing them from becoming homeless or unnecessarily institutionalized. The Protective Services Program responds to reports of elder abuse by diffusing difficult situations through assessments, coordination of appropriate services, and monitoring of the elder abused person and care givers. The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program provides advocates for residents in long term care facilities.
History:
Ethos was incorporated in 1973 (under the name of Southwest Boston Senior Services, Inc. to serve the elderly and handicapped residents in the neighborhoods of Hyde Park, southern Jamaica Plain, western Mattapan, Roslindale, and West Roxbury. In 1997 the agency changed its name to Ethos. In 1995, Ethos joined Boston's two other ASAP's (Boston Senior Home Care and Central Boston Elder Services) to create the Eldercare Charitable Foundation (ECF). The purpose of ECF is to develop new products and sources of revenue, and to create new partnerships and innovative collaborative models for serving elders.
