Council of Social Concern is a charitable community-based agency, responding to the basic needs of people of all ages, providing early education and care, helping individuals develop their potential, creating positive family and community relationships, and fostering respect for diversity.

Description:
The Family Childcare System and Children's Center provide early education and childcare to primarily low and moderate income families, as well as those with children at risk of abuse/neglect. The two programs also offer social support services to parents and children. The Hispanic Program provides client advocacy, service access assistance, information and referral, leadership development, community building, interpretation, translation, reducing discrimination, and cross-cultural sensitivity training and consultation. The Family Skill Building Program provides parenting education and supervised visitation services. The Food Pantry provides emergency and supplemental food assistance and community resource education to low-income households. Council of Social Concern also provides information and referral assistance.

History:
Council of Social Concern was started in 1969 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to promote a sense of "neighborliness" in the community. The Council was formed to address the absence of quality, affordable child care and housing issues, and has expanded into a multi-service community-based agency.
