Promoting the well being of animals and responsible human/animal relationships, we seek to develop materials to advertise and educate people on the magnitude of abandoned animals and what things they can do to prevent pet overpopulation. Also to encourage them to look toward shelters as a place to adopt a pet or seek advise so they can learn how to fix problems and maintain their pet in the household.
Description:
We provide direct care of pets, mainly cats at our shelter space in Natick. - Counciling people and making matches with pets at our adoption center at Pet World on Rt. 9 in Natick. - Developing public educational and advertising materials that will make people aware of the abandoned pet problem and what they can do to prevent abandonment and breeding. Promoting information so people come to the shelter to adopt pets and seek advise on problem solving with their pets before they are turned in to the shelter. SPIN provides foster care for mother cats with kittens so they are socialized. We also provide care of pets when women have to leave a battered home, until they can be safely reuntied with their pets.
History:
Stray Pets In Need of Mass Inc (SPIN) was founded in 1991 by animal control officer Sue Webb to help care for strays which the town budgets would not cover. It has grown to over 150 volunteers and work with animal control officers in 9 towns.
