Resurrection Lutheran Church, founded in 1874, has served the South End, then Roxbury Community, both spiritually and physically throughout the years.
It has a wide gamut of social services and action: A residence for nine adults with mental illness histories, male and female mentoring programs, a home day care system, a Fatherhood Program for young fathers on probation, feeding programs, summer day camp, a seniors program, counseling, a tutoring program, the adoption of Phillis Wheately School and other public education initiatives, active participation in the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization and in the Black Ministerial Alliance, etc.
History:
Founded in the South End in 1874, Resurrection (then called Emmanuel) moved to Roxbury in 1923. It began as a Swedish congregation but changed with the community and is now 95% African American and Latino.
