The mission of the Arthritis Foundation is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases.
Description:
The Arthritis Foundation MA Chapter is the only chapter of the National Arthritis Foundation in the state of Massachusetts. We exist primarily to raise funds for arthritis research, as well as to initiate and conduct educational programs for individuals with arthritis and their families. Money is raised by means of year-round events: marathons, walkathons, dinners, etc. The programs include lectures, aquatic and exercise classes, education seminars and health fairs. We also disseminate large quantities of educational materials. An information line, which provides access to physicians as well as trained volunteers, is available to all.
History:
The Arthritis Foundation MA Chapter has been in existence for more than 50 years. In that time, it has grown from a small staff of 5 or 6 people to its present size of 20. Increasing numbers of events are scheduled each year, with escalating fundraising goals.
In addition, the number of persons with arthritis who have been served has increased exponentially.
