We offer support to elders and those who care for them. From in-home care services to home delivered meals to support for caregivers and more. There are a number of services available that can significantly enhance the quality of life for elders and provide much needed support for those who care for them. Elders who need assistance with the activities of daily living can choose from one or many services to help them remain independent and safe in their own home. Home Care Services include, housekeeping, meals on wheels, grocery shopping personal care, adult day health and more. Our Family Caregiver Support Program empowers caregivers by providing education, support and services. North Shore Elder Services offers volunteer opportunities in a variety of programs. A neighbor's independence depends on you. Volunteers play a very important role in some of our key programs. They visit with elders, take them on errands, help manage monthly finances, or transport to and from doctor's appointments. Some of our volunteers act as advocates for nursing home residents and others help families understand health care benefits. Others help with special fundraising events or with clerical support in our busy office. New volunteer opportunities are always in the making.
History:
North Shore Elder Services, Inc., (NSES) was founded in 1976 as a private, not for profit, 501(c)(3) organization serving primarily low income, and frail older people and their families on the North Shore. Our planning and service area includes the communities of Salem, Peabody, Middleton, Marblehead and Danvers. The primary goal of the agency is to assist elders to live independently, and with dignity in the community. As an Area Agency on Aging and a state designated Aging Service Access Point Founded in 1976, NSES is responsible for planning, coordinating and advocating for comprehensive, community-based services to meet the short and long-term needs of older people and their families. As such, we provide Information and Referral about a variety of resources such as nursing homes, adult day health centers, nursing assistance, legal services, meals-on-wheels, nursing home pre-admission screening, personal care assistance, support for caregivers, nursing home ombudsman (advocacy), and money management. We offer free, in-depth telephone consultation so that seniors may find appropriate services. NSES belongs to a national network of 670 Area Agencies on Aging, which means we can put a person in touch with our counterparts across the country. North Shore Elder Services is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of representatives from the local communities in which we serve. The role of the Board is to establish corporate policy and assure the agency is meeting its goals. NSES employs case managers who arrange, authorize and oversee a variety of in-home services for low income, frail elders. These home care services supplement what elders are able to do for themselves and what can be provided by their families. NSES is one of 27 aging service access points in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
