To fulfill the legacy of John Andrew Mazie by recruiting and training adult volunteers to Mentor and act as role models for vulnerable high school students. To provide young people with the support they need to take control of their lives, set and achieve goals, prepare to apply to college or other post-secondary training, and experience success.

Description:
Our goal program provides structure for our Mentors' work, but enough flexibility to allow Mentees to focus on their specific needs. Our Mentees work with their Mentors to establish three, six,
12 and 24 month goals for community service, educational, career and personal goals to improve their own lives. The Foundation presents goal achievement awards at these intervals, including a lap top computer for the successful completion of the one-year goal. In addition, we provide a $2000 scholarship upon high school graduation.
The program is supervised and supported by a full time Director and a part time licensed social worker.

History:
Since 1998, 275 at risk Framingham High School
students, recommended by school personnel, have been paired with volunteer mentors recruited from the business community. Anecdotal and quantitative feedback from the school and from Foundation administered surveys shows that our Mentors' efforts have had a significant positive impact on their Mentees' lives, including improved grades, school attendance, familial relationships, and preparation to attend college. We
pair Mentors with Mentees in October and February of the Mentees'
sophomore year and make every attempt to continue the mentoring relationship through high school graduation. We add approximately 40 mentor-mentee pairs per year.
