Our mission is to provide homeless cats with high-quality care in a safe, healthy, and loving environment. We work to find safe, healthy, and loving permanent homes for the cats in our care and to educate potential adopters and the general public about cat welfare issues.

Description:
We are a “limited access” (more commonly known as no kill) shelter, which is defined as a shelter that will never euthanize cats to create room to take in more cats.
The Ellen Gifford Shelter does not keep cats in motion-restricting cages.
The main shelter, a large building of mostly open space, allows cats to freely roam in an interactive setting, letting play, exercise and socialize

History:
The Ellen Gifford Shelter is a cageless, limited access( aka no-kill) facility, founded in 1884 and sponsored by Ellen Gifford. Originally a shelter for all animals, it eventually became a shelter just for cats.
