Excel Academy Charter School's mission is to prepare middle school students to succeed in high school and college, apply their learning to solve relevant problems, and engage productively in their communities.

Description:
Excel Academy was created to offer a tuition-free, public middle school alternative to students in the traditionally underserved communities of East Boston and Chelsea. In order to address the severe academic underperformance and low college matriculation rates of students from these communities, the school offers a highly rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum supported by a structured school culture.

Excel Academy holds its students to high academic and behavioral expectations. Excel students are expected to be prepared, respectful, engaged and professional. Our students have consistently outperformed their local peers on the state standardized tests and recently scored in top ten percent of all MA school districts on the 2006 math and English MCAS exams.

History:
Excel Academy Charter School received its charter from the Massachusetts Department of Education in February of 2003, and we opened our doors to our first class of 100 students in September of 2003. The 2007-08 school year is Excel's fifth year of successful operation. We serve approximately 200 5th-8th grade students.
