The Wellmet Project is a group home for people with mental health disabilities. People are helped to achieve independence through the power of interdependence in a communal, convivial, mutually supportive environment.

Description:
We are comprised of thee coed houses with 10-12 residents and four live-in staff in each. Residents are out of the house between the hours of 10 and 2 every day, and hold at least 20 hours of committed involvement in a job, school, volunteer job, or day program. Residents also spend a minimum of four nights a week eating dinner with and socializing with people in the house. All household responsibilities and cooking are shared equally by residents and staff.

History:
The Wellmet Project was started in 1960 by Harvard students in complementary/alternative mental health care. We are still going strong and providing good service to our clients because the communitarian values that inspired Wellmet still work. We have grown to two houses and are considering adding a third.
