Give us 2 hours a week. Get the experience of a lifetime!
As an English literacy tutor with English At Large, you can make a difference in the life of another adult and in your community.
No experience is necessary. You do not need to speak another language. Training is provided. You can do this!
When Violeta came to English At Large, her limited English literacy skills isolated her from people around her. Personal attention from an English At Large tutor changed her life.
Today Violeta is as inspiring as she is unstoppable. She has become a United States citizen and runs her own graphic design business. She supports her local community by translating for hospitals. And she connects other immigrants with housing, jobs, and medical care.
This is unlike any other volunteer experience. The impact on our learners is immediate and powerful. And our volunteers insist that they receive as much as they give.
Volunteer training workshops available every fall and spring.
Email English At Large to receive the next training schedule or learn more.
Volunteer today! Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
Volunteer tutors participate in a 2-hour orientation followed by a 15-hour hands-on training workshop, in which you learn flexible activities for teaching reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
Volunteer tutors meet with their learner 2-3 hours/week in a public location. They are asked to commit to meeting with their learner for 50 total hours.
Other volunteer roles are also available: facilitating an English conversation group, interviewing and assessing new learners, administering and scoring standardized assessments.
Volunteers do not need to speak another language. This opportunity is sponsored by: English At Large
