The mission of Connect Five is to build a web of services and support for children and families to enhance well being and academic achievement.
Description:
The Connect 5 Initiative is a partnership among the Boston YMCA, Boston College and the Boston Public Schools (BPS) in Cluster 5. Its primary mission is to improve the linkages between community, school and families of the Allston-Brighton neighborhood through case management, program development and community outreach. Through our programming and partnerships, families will be able to access health care, better nutritional information and programs, educational programs, afterschool care and other prevention programs. Through the web of services, families that are currently underserved and marginalized will gain access to a wealth of resources that already exist in this community, thus allowing them to better provide for their children. Our goal is to enhance the well being of families and in turn, improve the academic achievement of children to ensure that opportunities are accessible to them.
History:
To date, the Initiative has assessed needs and issues in Cluster 5 regarding student support, examined a range of potential models in use across the country, and developed a specific cluster-wide model of Family Student Support in Cluster 5.
