The mission of Center for Social Change is to provide services to children and adults with developmental disabilities, supported employment services to adults with intellectual disabilities, medical day services to functionally disabled individuals, and therapeutic integration services to children with autism for choice, rights, growth and independence with care, love and partnership
Description:
Center for Social Change, Inc. is a private nonprofit organization supporting children and adults with special needs. Center for Social Change is a strong advocate for personal choices in community living for individuals who are developmentally, physically, psychologically and emotionally challenged. Our aim is to help these individuals achieve their full potential as members of the community. We provide the support and resources to help them lead lives independent of institutional life through integrated efforts of change agents who are passionate about changing lives of people with disabilities.
History:
Center for Social Change has been providing residential services, vocational and supported employment, volunteering opportunities and advocacy to individuals with intellectual disabilities for the past 14 years and recently, medical day services and therapeutic integration services to functionally disabled adults and children with autism respectively Since its beginning, CSC developed the sensitivity and the skills to serve the more complex individuals. The first individuals that CSC supported residentially in the community came from Rosewood Center, Maryland's largest State institution. Because these individuals lived in the State institution for 30 to 40 years, their lives in the community presented us with challenges. However, they were successfully integrated into the community. Today, they continue to enjoy their lives in settings where they make choices about menus, activities, the decor of their homes, and staff that support them. Vacations, picnics, bowling, movies, shopping at malls, are choices that have become routine for these individuals. To this date, we have served well over 125 individuals in our residential program and over 70 in our supported employment program. We are serving functionally disabled individuals in our medical day that is a structured setting located at 6600 Amberton Drive in Elkridge, Maryland and is licensed to serve up to 100 individuals in it. Beginning May 2007, we also began providing therapeutic integration after school program services to chidren with autism in the same building. At the Center for Social Change, We Change Lives!
