 Volunteer Position Description
Title: Youth Program Aide Purpose: Parks & People Foundation’s vision is a healthy, safe and beautiful environment for Baltimore’s neighborhoods where people want to live, work, learn and play. Supervisor: Erin Shutt Volunteer Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities: • Hands-on interaction with campers and staff at our SuperKids campsites. • Assist with projects onsite at our after-school program, KidsGrow. • Assist in updating and maintaining our youth programs database. • Keep youth programs records organized and accessible. • Plan and organize trips, projects and events for program participants. • Brainstorm and develop new project ideas to engage our students. • Research and generate new ideas for our youth programs fundraising campaign. • Establish a Leadership Service Council to facilitate service learning opportunities/events for students at existing KidsGrow sites. • Increase parent participation by organizing Parent Nights for families of our youth participants. • Add creative input to update and improve our current youth program curriculum.
Qualifications: • Supports Parks & People’s vision of a healthy, safe and beautiful environment for Baltimore’s neighborhoods where people want to live, work, learn and play. • Energetic and upbeat demeanor. • Familiar with basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and willing to learn new computer-based programs. • Good organizational and research skills. • Demonstrates strong leadership abilities. • Comfortable learning and executing new tasks. • Flexible in terms of location (office versus outdoor setting) and nature of work preformed. Time Commitment: • Days/hours are negotiable. Training and Benefits: • Will receive a general orientation about Parks & People Foundation before starting commitment. • Opportunity to provide practical and objective support to the Parks & People Foundation youth programs. • Increase personal knowledge of Baltimore City’s parks, recreation and youth. • Gain experience in educational planning and facilitation. • Opportunity to serve community-based organizations throughout Baltimore City. • Become a prospect to be nominated for prestigious volunteer awards. • Free parking, service learning hours,and reference/recommendation letters are available. • Additional training opportunities as they become available. • Opportunity to participate in all Parks & People Foundation volunteer events and recognition ceremonies. Evaluation and Reporting Procedures: • Annual evaluation by the Volunteer Coordinator and monthly recording and reporting on volunteer hours and activities.
