History:
Reach was founded in November, 2003 by local textile artist, Alice Brinkman, who felt there was a need in the city of Lansing for art making venues that were accessible to Lansing residents and especially to those who did not typically access extra curricular art activities due to barriers of income, location or transportation. Board members, volunteers and contracted art teachers have worked hard to develop this community resource for art-making. Reach became a non-profit corporation in February, 2004, and is sustained by grants, donations, registration fees and generous volunteers who are committed to the vision. Among other grants, Reach has received, 3 years in a row a Community Art Partners grant from the Michigan Association of Community Art Agencies. In 2005, Reach was one of five organizations to receive a statewide: "Great Lakes Community Arts Award".
