The mission of the Council is to facilitate access to primary health care services for residents of suburban Cook County who lack such access because of financial barriers.

Description:
Access to Care provides affordable health care to low income, uninsured residents of suburban cook county and northwest Chicago. To qualify the individual must: live in suburban Cook or northwest Chicago, have a family income under 200% of family poverty, have no insurance and be ineligible for Medicaid, All Kids, Family Care or Medicare. Services: Doctors visits for $5, lab and x-ray for $5 and prescription medicines for $10 to $30. We have served over 90,000 people in 19 years of operation.

History:
The program began in 1988 in the northwest and southwest suburbs. In 1990 it expanded to cover the entire suburban area. The program expanded in 2004 to cover the northwest area of Chicago, as that is underserved for medical care. In 2006 the program was granted funding by the State of Illinois to serve more people. At the end of 2006 the program served 87,111 unduplicated individuals.
