The mission of The Women’s Treatment Center is to provide women with a continuum of care, recovery tools, and parenting skills to maintain a sober lifestyle as they rebuild their lives and futures and mend the bonds with their families.
Description:
TWTC pioneered the state of Illinois' comprehensive residential substance abuse treatment services for women with children in a community-based setting 16 years ago. The programming includes 84 residential treatment beds for women, pregnant women and mothers with young children; Outpatient Programming and a Methadone Clinic; a 16-bed medical Detoxification Unit; as well as a two-stage Transitional Living Program. Children’s programs include: Infant-Toddler Daycare for 0-3 year olds; a special Pre-Kindergarten Program staffed by the Chicago Board of Education that can accommodate 16 children who are age 4 years.; and Nana’s Crisis Nursery, which provides 24-hour care to children whose mothers are in medical or psychiatric crisis during their withdrawal phase. TWTC also provides an array of wraparound services designed to address client needs, such as physicians, nurses, psychologists, parenting education staff, as well as partnerships with other community-based programs. Parents And Children Together (PACT) Program enables children and their mothers incarcerated at the Decatur Correctional Center to maintain an ongoing relationship through video-teleconferencing visits.
TWTC is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. TWTC is licensed by The Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (DASA); Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) for daycare and crisis nursery; and the City of Chicago for daycare.
History:
The Women's Treatment Center (TWTC) was created by the State of Illinois as part of Governor Thompson’s Drug Free Illinois Initiative and Public Act 86-877. Located on the Near West Side of Chicago, TWTC was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1990. TWTC clients come from every county in the state to participate in substance abuse treatment, with the majority from Cook County.
