The Crisis Center for South Suburbia is a non-profit community organization that provides emergency shelter and other essential services for individuals and families victimized by domestic violence.

Description:
The Crisis Center provides a number of services including emergency shelter, transitional housing, a 24-hour crisis hotline, counseling, court and hospital advocacy, and community education.

History:
The Crisis Center for South Suburbia was founded in 1978 by a small group of concerned community members. The committee established a crisis hotline providing support and information to victim's of domestic violence. In 1979, the Crisis Center obtained its incorporation as a non-profit agency. From 1980 to 1998, the Crisis Center provided shelter services for victims of domestic violence. A capital campaign began in 1989 in order to build a new facility which opened in 1991. Over the past 26 years, the Crisis Center has demonstrated the ability to develop and implement comprehensive, cost-effective programs that not only support domestic violence victims, but also address the societal issues that contribute to domestic violence.
