NeighborKeepers is a non-profit, anti-poverty organization in Burlington, Vermont that has adopted the “Circles of Support” national program. The NeighborKeepers Circle of Support Program is a high impact strategy whose focus is the engagement of the greater community in relationship with families who have a need to increase resources.
Description:
Social Entrepreneur, Hal Colston, who developed the Good News Garage in 1996, has initiated NeighborKeepers. Participants (community members) and volunteers (allies) work together to eliminate barriers to success in a supportive environment, investing in the transformative power of positive social networks to build an inclusive community where patterns of isolation and dependence are broken down. Through the power of interdependent community, everyone has the resources to realize their sense of purpose, to fulfill their relationships and contribute to the common good. Volunteering to become part of a family’s Circle of Support as a trained “Ally” can make a world of difference and strengthen our community.
