The U.S. Naval Sea Cadets of Rhode Island encourage growth, citizenship, and social skills in our young people, through the development of personal values, teamwork, and critical thinking.
Description:
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadets of Rhode Island is a federally-sponsored association for teenagers and pre-teens (age 11 through 17), who have or desire ambition, self-discipline, and a strong academic background. Our primary mission is to instill in Rhode Island youth a desire to succeed as individuals and citizens, beginning with a solid foundation for building academic and social skills, teamwork, and critical thinking. Our goals include: * Develop in our youth an appreciation for Naval History, traditions, customs, and their role in national defense. * Develop in our youth a sense of pride in our nation, positive qualities of patriotism, courage and self-reliance, confidence and strong moral character, and good citizenship traits. * Develop in our youth an interest and skill in seamanship, seagoing, and aviation subjects. * Increase the advancement potential of Cadets who may later elect to serve in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Merchant Marines.
History:
Since 1958 the Naval Sea Cadet Corps has been committed to providing American youth with a drug and alcohol free environment to foster their leadership abilities, broaden their horizons through hands-on training and guide them to becoming mature young adults. Local units in Rhode have been serving the youth of the Ocean State for more than thirty years.
