The mission of the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum is to inspire people to live in harmony with the natural world by fostering love, appreciation and understanding of the Sonoran Desert.
Description:
The Arizona Sonora Desert Museum is a world-renowned zoo, natural history museum, and botanical garden, all in one place. A network of walking trails leads through desert gardens to naturalistic exhibits displaying live animals of the desert. Two miles of pathways traverse 21 acres of grounds on which you can see 1200 kinds of plants and 300 animal species --- all alive in natural desert settings. The museum is open every day of the year.
History:
The Arizona Sonora Desert Museum was established in 1952 and has continued to grow and expand ever since. Many new exhibits have been added over the years and new interpretive programs are continually being developed. Education has been the focus of the museum from its start and continues to be our primary goal.
