P.H.A.T. LEADERSHIP PROGRAM The P.H.A.T. Teen Leadership Program exposes inner-city teens, ages 15-19, to positive experiences outside their own environment in hopes of developing leaders for tomorrow. Our teens learn and demonstrate positive work ethics, self-esteem, complete community service hours, serve as role models to other students, working with a diverse group of people, developing their leadership potential, planning, conducting, and evaluating special events and creating and maintaining a bi-monthly teen newsletter. Their experience in our leadership program encourages them to be the best they can be and to become more critically aware of realities of their community and empowered to make a difference in it.
Events: NO IDLE HANDS TEEN AWARENESS FAIR This free annual community event is comprised of many community teen and youth organizations, non-profit agencies, businesses, professional football players, other V.I.P. celebrities, and local & well known entertainers that have joined forces to form an alliance of teen awareness and support. This effort was created to give teens the opportunity to be a part of something worthwhile in the community and to become involved so as to have less idle time on their hands, thus supporting the effort that the Teen Awareness Fair aides in lowering juvenile delinquency. The Teen Awareness Fair also brings cultural awareness and education to the community. BE SMART WORK HARD F.C.A.T. PEP RALLY/EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN This free annual community event is a way of sending a message of encouragement and support to Palm Beach County high school students. James S. Jackson, Executive Director of P.H.A.T. and Robin Johnson, Recruiter and Motivator of Palm Beach Community College join NFL players and a host of other celebrities in a presentation to the high school students. "BE SMART WORK HARD" CELEBRITY CHARITY BASKETBALL GAME This annual community event is a unique opportunity to watch professional NFL football players and local celebrities play basketball, matching their skills against local high school and college coaches and students. There's performances by teen groups, lots of give-a-ways, music and more. It's total entertainment! This is a free event, which will include a fundraising element, where proceeds are donated to P.H.A.T. TEEN AWARENESS FAIR V.I.P. BANQUET This is an annual fundraising banquet. The banquet is a time where community leaders, VIP's including professional athletes, Teen Awareness Fair Planning Committee members and staff, organizations and businesses, along with special guests and notable teens, come together to enjoy a gala evening. There are special guest speakers, teen speakers, NFL speakers and entertainment. Funds are raised from a silent auction hosting primarily autographed sports memorabilia, a Chinese auction where there is something for everyone, a live auction for a little excitement, and a raffle to take your chance at. A portion of the proceeds in the past have been donated to Operation Hope, a homeless shelter for women & children, and the only shelter in Palm Beach County who house teenagers. Proceeds will also be donated to PHAT to benefit their teen development programs.
History:
The History In 1999, two teens were facing a difficult issue and needed some adult guidance. The girls chose to confide in James and Valerie Jackson. After the conversation, the girls asked if they could come back and bring some friends. When they came again, nine friends had gotten permission from their parents to come too. The group enjoyed two days of fun, interaction and learning. They learned some valuable life skills in the areas of etiquette, manners and cooking. The environment created an atmosphere where the teens felt free to be teens and also open up to others. They had such a great time that they wanted more and wanted to invite others. That is how Positive Habitat Aspiring Teens (P.H.A.T.) was born. P.H.A.T. has since grown into an established 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has touched the lives of thousands of teens.
