Children In Placement - CT/CASA
[ View Opportunity ]
Last updated on July 8, 2008

To facilitate effective judicial review of children and families involved in court proceedings where neglect and abuse are alleged in order to promote a safe permanent home for each child in Connecticut.

Description:
Children In Placement - CT/CASA is the Connecticut CASA program. Children In Placement (CIP)trains community volunteers as court advocates to speak up in court in the best interest of abused and neglected children while monitoring safety and ushering the child through the mirage of laws and practices that so often impede the timely execution of plans for a safe and permanent home. The volunteers trained as guardians ad litem, conduct an investigation by interviewing the child, biological and foster parent, educators, health care providers, and others who impact upon the life of the child. They they report their findings to the court with recommendations.

History:
For over twenty-five years Children In Placement, a 501 (c) (3) organization has facilitated effective judicial review of neglect and abuse cases. CIP's approach to reform of the child protection system began with the development of a volunteer court monitoring system designed to assist the court in assessing court ordered reunification plans. In 1995 CIP developed the volunteer guardian ad litem program currently operating in each of Connecticut's juvenile courts, and in many of Connecticut's probate courts.
